Yeah, I know… Our first post isn’t even about a band playing in Austin. What kind of Austin Music Review are we anyway? Well, boys and girls, let me educate you. While Austin might be one of the coolest places on Earth. While Austin might be home to some truly awesome musicians. While Austin is number one in our hearts… We will still take road trips in hope of seeing some truly killer performances. Who wouldn’t?
So let’s cut to the chase, shall we?
Who Are They?
Black Stone Cherry is a southern rock band that has been around for about 7 years. Their current label is Roadrunner Records and on August 19th, 2008 they released their second album; Folklore and Superstition. Black Stone Cherry has developed a uniquely heavy, yet dynamic, sound to their music and in many cases the songwriting of Black Stone Cherry has been likened to story telling. We will cover more about their music after we hear them live!
How Did We Find Them?
If you haven’t been over to Pandora yet and you are serious about finding new bands… you definitely need to go check that out. Essentially you tell Pandora what bands you like, and it starts pumping out new bands that have a similar sound. Each song is analyzed using up to 400 distinct musical characteristics by trained music analysts with four year degrees in music theory. They then take these attributes and use them to help you find music that you might enjoy. We found Black Stone Cherry by looking for bands with similar musical styling as Theory of a Deadman, Hinder, and ACDC.
Where & When Are They Playing?
That would be Scout Bar in Houston, Texas on February 1st, 2009. This is a free concert for the fans that missed them when they had to cancel in Beaumont.

Musical Sample? Yes!
